Are you an experienced professional who has been job searching for a while with little to no success? Do you feel that you are doing all of the right things but aren’t getting the results you want? This program is designed to provide you the tools and support you need to find success in your job search.

In this six week program we will cover: 

  1. How to make yourself stand out with your résumés and cover letter.
  2. Job search strategies that will bring you the best return on your investment of time and energy.
  3. Interviewing techniques that will leave a lasting impression.
  4. Networking skills that are proven to work.
  5. The power of your beliefs, thoughts and attitudes, and how they impact your success as a job seeker.
  6. How to create an effective action plan to assist you in moving forward positively. 

Week One
Introduction: We'll start by getting to know one another and reviewing the ground rules. Then we'll tackle the following questions: Why are you here? What are you hoping to gain from the group? What are your goals related to your job search? What is the biggest job search challenge that you are currently facing?

Week Two
Resume and Cover Letters: We'll teach you the most important things you need to know about writing a resume and cover letter, plus how to stand out using these documents?

Week Three
Job Search Strategies: We will discuss which job boards should you avoid and which ones are the best. We also will cover the top job search strategies, networking and the power of informational interviewing.

Week Four
Interviewing Strategies: This session will cover the most effective interviewing techniques and the best way to prepare for interviews. 

Week Five
The Emotional Side of the Job Search: Your emotional state is just as important in landing a job as having a solid resume, cover letter and search strategy. Beliefs, thoughts and attitudes, and how they impact the job search process will be discussed. 

Week Six
Commitments and Goals: The focus of the last class will be on the power of commitments and how to minimize distractions. Each person will create an individualized action plan to support them in achieving their desired goals.

Gain clarity about your personality, interests and strengths to help you better understand your career preferences. The world of work is constantly changing as are the needs and goals of today’s workforce. CU is committed to helping alumni manage their career transitions. Lea Alvarado and Jennifer Duncan are our two alumni career counselors and are available for appointment by phone, Skype, or in person.
