In brief, the department is home to four research centers:
BioServe Space Technologies, a leader in developing valuable life sciences applications
Center for Aerospace Structures, which studies next-generation aerospace structures
Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research, which integrates satellite applications with the study of geophysical processes
Research and Engineering Center for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, a multidisciplinary center focused on technologies and applications of unmanned vehicle systems, including those that operate in the air, on land, in the sea, or in space
Faculty in the department are also organized into four Research Focus Areas:
Aerospace Engineering Systems (AESys)
Astrodynamics & Satellite Navigation Systems (ASN)
Remote Sensing, Earth and Space Sciences (RSESS)
Bioastronautics (Bio)
