PDR (Preliminary Design Review) Work

During the past week our team focused on trade studies, BOTE calculations, and preliminary designs derived from those studies. The CDD gave us excellent starting points for the trade studies and BOTE calculations, and we have made good progress as a result.

The main technical problems studied in the past week were sub-vehicle type, the aerodynamic environment during deployment, deployment mechanism placement and type, primary vehicle structural analysis, deployment mechanism testing, and flight stability. We still have a multitude of design choices to consider and we plan to work very hard this week to choose 1-2 designs for PDR.

To the reader: we have a structurally indeterminate wing on the SIG-110 - if someone knows to analyze the wing without using ANSYS feel free to let us know.
