Aerospace Engineering Systems

The Aerospace Engineering Systems (AESys) Focus Area is further divided into three Thrust Areas: Fluid Dynamics and Propulsion, Automatic Control, and Structures and Materials.

For the AESys Focus Area only, the general MS requirement to take a core course outside of the focus area is waived; however, CAETE students in the structures thrust area must take an outside core course to fulfill the second thrust area requirement since no fluids or control courses are currently offered through CAETE.

Structures

Requirements of the MS degree in the Structures Thrust Area are:

  1. Two Core Classes in the Structures thrust area and one core course in a second thrust area within AESys.
  2. Two electives from the Structures thrust area. (See Graduate Handbook for detailed listing.)

Structures Core Courses are:

  • 5012 Mechanics of Aerospace Structures (fall offering)
  • 5022 Introduction into Dynamics of Aerospace Structures (spring offering)
  • 5007 Introduction into Finite Elements (fall offering)

Requirements of the Ph.D. degree in the Structures Thrust Area are:

  1. Two Core Classes in the Structures thrust area and one core course in a second thrust area within AESys.
  2. Two electives from the Structures thrust area. (See Graduate Handbook for detailed listing.)
  3. Two of the AESys 6000 level electives in Structures (these may be the same courses used to satisfy the MS Requirements).

Structures Core Courses are:
