Faculty Advisors

Q. What is a Faculty Advisor?

A. All ASEN undergraduates are assigned to an ASEN Faculty Member.  Students may send requests for their top 5 Faculty Mentors based on the student's interest in that faculty member's research.  For a list of ASEN faculty, please visit this link.  Faculty Advisors help students with long-term career goals, applying to graduate school, networking, writing letters of recommendation, selecting Professional Area Electives, etc.  They also act as a professional mentor.

Q. How often do students have to meet with their Faculty Advisor?

A. Students are encouraged to meet with their Faculty Mentor once a semester but are not required to meet with them every semester.  All undergraduate ASEN students are required to meet with their Faculty Advisor in the Fall semester.  Students will have a Registration Hold (Advising Hold) on their record and must meet with their Faculty Mentor before they register for spring classes.  Students must have a signature from their Faculty Advisor on the Faculty Advisor Form and submit the form to Claire Yang at least 3 business days before their registration time assignment.

A. Many of the sessions occur in a group setting so that you can meet upper-classmen that share similar interests in research.

 Q. Where can I find the name of the Faculty Mentor that was assigned to me and how can I contact them?

A. In the Student Center of MyCUInfo.  It is in the blue box on the right side of the page.

A. This link lists all of the ASEN Faculty and includes their contact information.
