We've all heard the horror stories. Living in a dorm is a scary thought. Walking up to Libby Hall on move-in day scared the living daylights out of me. I couldn't believe that I was going to have to live with someone I had never met, in a space smaller than my room at home. This was a truly terrifying thought. After meeting my roommate, Dana, I realized that it wasn't going to be so bad, it actually started to seem fun. I soon realized that living in a dorm was, in fact, fun. Everywhere I walked on that first day, there was someone there wanting to meet me. I couldn't believe that I had such a bad image on living in a dorm because it was so nice and clean, nothing like I had imagined.
Libby Hall on our first day of snow
My roommate told me that in order to meet friends, her mom had sent her with a large tub of Redvines. She explained that people could walk in, grab a Redvine, and then we would be friends with them. It turns out, that we were the only ones eating the Redvines because nobody knew that we had them. To make up for this, Dana decided to put the Redvines in front of our door so that people could see them. Although she had done this as a joke, it actually worked. People started coming to our room to see if they could have a Redvine. We met a lot of people this way and soon became good friends with them. This taught me that everyone was here to make friends and sometimes having an excuse to go and talk to them was a good way to meet people.
Five months have gone by since that day and I have to say that I still love living in the dorms. Although my room is a whole lot messier than that first day, nothing has really changed. Libby is still the amazing place that I moved into on August 18th. I have loved getting to know all of the new people and take advantages of all the fun activities, such as going to see movies or dance shows, that my dorm offers. Living in the dorms is an amazing experience and one that I would never give up.
