I am writing this post from the Weather Tech Cafe in the C4C! This is one of my favorite places to hang out on campus because it has a really great atmosphere and a convenient location – it is close to the residence halls, so I always see someone I know here!
Additionally, it is said that the food here is some of the best on campus! Their menu includes a variety of made-to-order items from pizzas and calzones, sandwiches and subs, soups and salads, smoothies and ice cream, to snacks and energy drinks. Because the café is located in the C4C, right down the stairs from the largest dining hall on campus, you know that you are never going to run out of options for food!
What is unique about the Weather Tech Café is that, as a student, you get to use what is called “Munch Money”— basically $200 that is pre-loaded onto your BuffOne card as an additional part of your meal plan that you may use around campus throughout the semester. You may use Munch Money at any of the dining options on campus that are not restaurant chains (i.e. NOT the Laughing Goat Café in the library, or the Jamba Juice, Dominos, Panda Express, Cold Stone, etc. in the UMC). It’s a great way to take a break from the dining hall food (not that it is bad, at all!) without having to leave campus or spend your own money. However, if you are just visiting campus and don’t have a meal plan, you can still pay cash. I see faculty members eating here all the time!
Besides from being a great place to get food, the Weather Tech is also a really nice place to study! Between the mood lighting, warm fire place, soft background music, and convenience of coffee (or in my case, Redbull), you really can't go wrong if you are a person who likes "white noise." With mid terms starting this week, it is especially important to really find your niche of where you like to study. Believe it or not, I have sometimes found that being in a library is almost too quiet for my liking!
Like I said before, the Weather Tech is centrally located, so I really enjoy coming here to study in between classes if I don’t feel like walking all the way back to my residence hall. What is particularly fun (I mean distracting) about studying here this week is that the Olympics are on TV! We are currently watching Shaun White in the half pipe, as well as the doubles figure skating. It’s nice to have this as an option to watch the Olympics because I don’t have a TV in my dorm room, and I can only use the TVs on the treadmill at the gym for so long until I get too tired!
Bonus: the Weather Tech Café is open until 2:00am! Although that may seem late to non-college students, know that when midterms roll around, your night is just getting started.
I plan on studying here a few more hours, focusing on Spanish, microeconomics, and writing a paper for my journalism class (as well as taking a few study breaks to watch Shaun White, of course).
Eventually, I will go back to my dorm and dream of skiing in Breckenridge this weekend!
Then, I will do it all over again.
Enjoy the warm-ish (35 degree) weather, everyone. GO BUFFS!
