Homesick No More: Mom Visits for the Weekend!

Sunday, October 20, 2013

Happy Sunday Everyone! Time has just been flying by! It is crazy to think that Halloween, and Thanksgiving Break are right around the corner! I had two midterms and two major papers due this past week. I was really motivated and focused on completing everything because I knew that by the end of the week, I would get to see my mom! She flew in this past Thursday to visit me! I was so excited because I hadn’t seen her in a while and missed her a lot! My family is from California, so the flight from California to Colorado is a little over two hours (Which isn’t long at all)! On Thursday night we went down to Pearl Street Mall and had dinner. It was very cold and was supposed to snow that night so not many people were out and about. Friday morning we woke up to about 2 inches of snow on the ground! I don’t have any classes on Fridays so we went to breakfast at the Buff (best pancakes ever!)and then spent the day running a few errands around Boulder and then went to the Flatirons Mall in Broomfield (two towns over from Boulder).

On Saturday we really just relaxed and ate lots of food! Since there was a CU football game, we turned on the TV, ordered Boulder Baked, and cheered on the Buffaloes! Boulder Baked is probably one of my favorite places in Boulder. They make fresh baked cookies made to order. They have other yummy things like cupcakes, cakes, and pies, but their cookies are my favorite. Since today is Sunday, I am about to drive my mom back to the airport. I decided to go to college out of state because I wanted to live somewhere I had never been before and make new memories with new people. Being an out of state student definitely has its perks, but being away from family is hard sometimes. Whenever I do get see my family though, or they come visit me in Boulder, I am always so excited and grateful! I hope you all have an amazing week and I hope you check out my post next Sunday!!

Hi Madisen - I am also from the Bay Area (Marin County) and I wonder what it felt like for you to be an out-of-stater at Boulder. Do a lot of kids stay around campus on weekends, or is there a commuter feeling there? What was it like making new friends and figuring out the Boulder scene? Thanks, and congratulations on being a senior!
