Studying in Boulder

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Every CU-Boulder student has their favorite study spot. With the many buildings on campus, a giant library, and numerous cafes all over the city, there are many options for where to best get work done. I have a few spots that are my go to places, usually depending on how much time I have, what I need to get done, and what day of the week it is.

International Film Series

Monday, March 4, 2013

On the CU Boulder campus, there is an event, or series of events, called the International Film Series. They hold screenings in Muenzinger Auditorium and the VAC auditiorium. Each day of the week is a different type of film, Tuesdays are documentaries, Wednesdays are arthouse films, Thursdays are cult films, and weekends are "festival favorites" which tend to be the more popular or well known films. As a student, seeing a film at the IFS is a great deal economically, tickets cost only $6 where as at the bigger theaters tickets can cost around $9.

Snow in Boulder

Friday, February 15, 2013

Finally!! It snowed this week in Boulder! This year there has been a serious lack of snow both in Boulder and in the mountains. But this past weekend I was able to go up to Beaver Creek Resort to ski with some friends. The snow conditions were great, a lot of fresh from the night before, a bit of snow fall during the morning, and sun in the afternoon. Unfortunately, we did not plan very well and got stuck in the crazy Sunday afternoon traffic on I-70...for five hours! But the day was so good and we had good company so it was not nearly as bad as it could have been.

SIA in Denver

Friday, February 8, 2013

Last weekend I was able to go to SIA at the Convention Center in Denver. SIA, which stands for SnowSports Industries America, is a convention where all the big name brands in the skiing and snowboarding industry gather in one place to show off all of their new gear. The event is not open to the public and is mainly attended by people who work in the industry, especially representatives from ski and snowboard shops looking for what to sell in their shops for the next season.

Spring in January

Friday, February 1, 2013

Coming back to Boulder after Christmas break, when I was in Washington enjoying tons of fresh snow in the mountains, I was all ready for a good Colorado winter complete with good skiing (my favorite thing to do). However, I was surprised to find my first couple weeks back were filled with warm, almost "hot", weather; with temperatures reaching around 60 degrees. Instead of being able to do my favorite activity, I was able to do some of my second favorite activity, rock climbing.

First Camping Trip

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Last weekend we had some crazy weather here in Boulder. It was raining and stormy and cold, something we haven't experienced in months. So of course, my friends and I decided to go camping! Now let me tell you, I have never been truly camping before- the closest I've ever gotten was sleeping in a tent next to a house. So I was very excited for my frist real camping.

Easter 2012

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

This year was my first time ever having to celebrate Easter without my family. I was a little homesick but it ended up being an awesome day. I woke up at 3:30 in the morning to drive to Red Rock Amphitheater with some friends for a sunrise service. We got there just in time to see the full Moon dropping behind the hills in the West as the Sun was peeking out in the East. It was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen and being able to share it with hundreds of people on Easter morning was perfect.

Spring Break 2012

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

I just returned yesterday from my spring break trip to California. I was so excited for a beachy, sunny vacation but what I got was a cold, sometimes rainy adventure. Despite the weather, I had an awesome week. I got to visit one of my best friends at University of Southern California. I got to meet all of her friends and go to her favorite places in Los Angeles. After that, I went to visit one of my lifelong friends at University of Redlands. Once again, it was very fun getting to meet all of her friends and seeing what her school life was like.

Denver Adventures and St. Patrick's Day`

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

I have had quite an eventful week. I will start by tell you about last Tuesday when I went to Denver with my best friend, Kelsey. The purpose for our trip was to see Pickwick, an indie-soul band that we love, in concert. When we got there we were surprised to find the venue fairly empty and were able to get in the front row. They put on an amazing show- better than I even imagined. We even got a shout out from the band while they were on stage when we told them we were from Tacoma!
