Starting School & Staying Healthy

Friday, September 7, 2012

School has started again, which means it is back to my busy schedule! I am a senior this year completely excited (and a little nervous) that I only have this semester and spring semester left! Since I am so busy with work and school, it is important I maintain a healthy diet so I can keep up my energy and stamina to get through various tasks, not to mention I am running my first half marathon in a little over a month!

Thoughts on my Last First Day of School

Tuesday, September 4, 2012

As I am writing this, it's really sinking in... I just had my last summer as a student. Ever. Well, maybe not ever, but at least for the foreseeable future. I began my last first day of school a week ago today. With a looming December graduation date and four months of growing list of ambitious goals (apply for Teach for America, take GRE, do well in school, finish internship, get hired by internship- fingers crossed- or else look for other jobs), I looked around at the freshman on campus and felt something odd. I felt jealous! I saw them making friends in the line for the C4C dining hall.

Back in Action

The first week of my senior year is in the books. This week, I met most of my teachers, sorted out most of my schedule woes, and learned that I love my walk to school.

But, between advising appointments, book buying madness, meetings and homework I was more than ready for my long Labor Day Weekend. And what a weekend it has been!

The Last Firsts

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

Well, school has started, but summer definitely hasn't ended. Boulder has been a little bit too warm for my liking, and all of us are counting down the days until the fall weather comes! It's so crazy that I've officially started Senior year. Like the title says, I've also started the last of my firsts. For example, my last time moving in to my sorority, Delta Delta Delta, my last first day of school, my last Italian class...I know that in Graduate school I'll have another first day of school and probably another Italian class, but it just won't be the same!

Back to School

Saturday, August 25, 2012

Here I am on the eve of the last day of summer break. On Monday morning, my carefree summer days will be replaced by a crazy schedule filled with class, work, and extracurricular. While that may not sound appealing, I am extremely excited to get back into the swing of life as a CU student.

This year, I am a senior, which means I will soon say goodbye to Boulder and life as a buff.  Say it isn’t so! This realization is what brought me to create a “Boulder Bucket List.”

1.       Meet Ralphie.

2.       Tube down Boulder Creek.

Money Money Money

Thursday, August 23, 2012

By now, you may have realized that school is expensive- tuition, books, food, and all of the little odds and ends that come with it. Luckily, there is a way to afford all of this…sort of. By getting a job!

On your mycuinfo page you will find a plethora of job openings under a plethora of categories. From on campus to off campus, waitressing or a desk job- you name it and it’s there!

Packing Up!

Wednesday, August 22, 2012

The time has come to start packing up my things and move back out to beautiful Boulder! I can't believe that Saturday I'll be fully moved in and ready to start my senior year! So crazy. I have so much to look forward to this year. My Big, Kelsey (for those of you who don't know, a Big is kind of like a mentor in your sorority) is getting married in October, and I'm so happy for her. Also, a bunch of my friends and I are going on a perimeter ride down at Garden of the Gods, which is one of my favorite places in Colorado. Everyone should go if they get a chance!

Nostalgia

Saturday, August 18, 2012

I don't know if it's just because this is my last week before starting my senior year, but I've been really nostalgic lately. I think it's gotten worse since I've started tutoring two Spanish teenagers from Granada. Yesterday instead of learning about giving directions, we ended up talking about the things we missed from Spain, like the Bifruta (this juice that also has milk in it. Sounds gross, and it actually smells kinda gross, but woah does it taste good), chuches (little gummy candies), and paella. That talk definitely made me want to go back to Spain right away!

Helpful Hints

Sunday, August 12, 2012

As the fall semester nears closer, I find myself in a mix of emotions. In just a few days I will officially be a senior in college! As crazy as it may sound, I’m excited to leave the summer behind and start all of the activities that come with the new semester…even though I’m a little sad that it means that I’m one step closer to leaving CU.

Most of you probably aren’t entering your senior year. So, I decided to create a list of tips for incoming or transfer students. Hopefully this list helps you discover what kind of Buff you will be!

Olympic Fever

Friday, August 10, 2012

I love the Olympics. The summer Olympics that is, I'm not a huge fan of the winter Olympics. So as you can imagine I have been glued to my TV for the past two weeks catching every event that I can! My favorite event is swimming, because I've been swimming competitively since I was about 6 years old. I've been a Michael Phelps fan since Athens, and I am so happy that he can now call himself the most decorated Olympian in history. What an honor. Kind of bummed that Ryan Lochte didn't really shine this time. But there is always Rio!
