Roots & Wings

Hey friends!

It's been awhile since my last post, but I've been extremely busy like the other bloggers as well. Aside from having midterms, I've actually spent time away from Boulder and have been preparing for the half marathon I'm running this upcoming weekend. I'll start by sharing where I've been.

Thursday Night Cruisers

Friday, October 19, 2012

Imagine 100 of your friends all gathered together on a Thursday night. Imagine all of you together at a park. Imagine all of you dressed up in costumes based on a common theme. Now imagine all of you with bikes, cruising around the city of Boulder, wishing every person you pass a “Happy Thursday!” enthusiastically.

Blackout Game

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

The Blackout game is the only football game that the Buffs play at night. It is called the blackout game because all of the students and the fans wear all black to make the crowd look like a blackout. It always surprises me how every student wears all black and how some students even go all out by painting themselves black to emphasize the blackout. This game took place last Thursday and was so much fun! The atmosphere at the blackout game is always great because people really get into it, even though we got crushed by UCLA.

Let the countdown begin!

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

For me, the first semester of the school year has never gone by very quickly. However, this year seems to be an anomaly. It has gone by SO fast, and I can't believe that we only have 30 days until Thanksgiving break! I am so excited to go home to see my family, but there are a LOT of things I have to get done before then! First of all, we just got paired with our Homecoming partners, the wonderful gentlemen of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Chi Psi. The overall theme is Olympics, and our specific theme is Equestrian, which is going to be so much fun.

Weekend in Vail

Monday, October 15, 2012

So this past weekend, I had the good luck to go up to the mountains. One of my friends’ grandparents has a condo in Vail, CO, and we got to take a small road trip up there for the weekend. I’ve been to Vail a few times during ski season, and it’s beautiful, but it is almost more gorgeous when it’s snow free. The time of year we picked was perfect because the leaves are still turning colors, and a valley full of yellow, orange, and red is breathtaking.

Sunday Funday

Sunday, October 14, 2012

Today was a day filled with Boulder and fall fun.

I started out the day by going to a pumpkin patch to pick out the perfect carving pumpkin. I found this great little patch no more than five miles from my apartment. There are so many little treasures like that in Boulder….and you don’t even have to travel very far.

This pumpkin patch had hay rides, a corn maze, kittens, goats, and a variety of pumpkins to choose from.

Ping Pong For Days

Sunday, October 14, 2012

I have always loved ping pong and have been a very competitive player for many years.  When I was a freshman in high school, my father and I rescued a beat-up table from a yard sale, stripped the warped wood off the frame, and built a new table from scratch.  That table saw hundreds of games and bore distinctive marks of character.
