Being Away for Disaster

Monday, September 23, 2013

As many of you know, the city of Boulder was met with torrential, ad very destructive flooding last week. I was born and raised in Boulder, and there has never been anything like this flooding. We do occassionally get wildfires that can be destructive, but nothing on this level has happened in recent memory.

La Merce

Sunday, September 22, 2013

Describing a week in Barcelona is sort of like trying to describe your trip to Disney Land, you have no idea where to start and it's all fantastic. I've spent this last week with friends from many different parts of the world, experiencing wonderful offerings in Barcelona. Something that was certainly worth noting was joining in the festivities of the anual La Merca festival, which happens every September in dedication to the Patron Saint of Barcelona.

Chautauqua Park and Pearl Street : Two of My Favorite Places!

Sunday, September 22, 2013

Hey Everyone! This past week has been crazy busy for me! On top of all my classes and homework, I started my volunteer internship in the Office of Admissions! I am so excited to be helping out in the office and getting more “real-world” work experience! This past Saturday, I went hiking up at Chautauqua park. My favorite Chautauqua trail goes from the base of the park to the very top of the Fatirons! I would say that it is an intermediate hike and definitely doable, but by the time I was finished, I was ready to eat and just relax!

Flash Flood

Thursday, September 19, 2013

This past week, we experienced something in Boulder that has never been experienced in my lifetime. Last Wednesday, I went to class wearing shorts and a tank top and then a few hours later, I was decked out in my rain jacket and rain boots. A dramatic change of the weather sent Boulder into a state of emergency. The night started out with just a little rain. While for some people rain isn't their favorite, I love rain days! I love hanging out inside snuggling up with hot chocolate and watching a movie. But this was more than just a rain day, this was a storm.

A Semester Abroad

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

Hello All,

I figured it would be good to introduce myself, and explain my situation before I spend the entire semester posting things about a place very far from Boulder and CU.

For the fall of this year, I am studying abroad in Istanbul at Bahçesehir University (BAU, I have no idea where the A comes from in that acronym, but that's what they call it) through the Syracuse Abroad Program. I am here with a group of 16 American students, representing 5 different universities (since it is a Syracuse program, about 9 of the 16 students are from Syracuse).

Boulder Bound! The First Weeks of My Senior Year!

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

I can't believe that I am a senior in college! I feel like it was just yesterday that I was a freshman moving into the residential halls. It’s crazy to think that I already had my last, first day of school ever! These first couple weeks of school have been filled with a lot of fun….and a little stress. I thought that I would be able to get back into the swing of school very easily since I had an intense internship over the summer through the Communication Department at CU. I was a promotions and marketing intern at WBT & WLNK of Greater Media Charlotte in North Carolina.

A Weekend Away

Saturday, September 14, 2013

Hello, everyone!

This past weekend, Young Life College at CU took 70 students and 90 other leaders up to a camp in Winter Park for a weekend getaway in the mountains. We stopped for milkshakes at my favorite spot on the way up, then spent the rest of the weekend hiking, playing on the Big Swing, jumping in the lake, eating warm, giant cookies with ice cream, and laughing the whole time! I always feel so at peace in the mountains, so being at school in Colorado just two hours away from forestry is really a blessing!

It's Football Season!

Friday, September 13, 2013

This past weekend was CU Boulder's first home game of the season against Central Arkansas! Game days are up there on my favorite days as a CU student. As I walked around The Hill to buy a new Colorado shirt for the new school year, everybody was decked out in black and gold. Families, students, and alumni were walking around singing the fight song and yelling "Go Buffs"! You could definitely feel the spirit in the air!
