Tour Day, Fun Day
This past week my favorite program the Office of Admissions offers for prospective students started up again--- Student for a Day. But I will talk a little bit more about that later…
Giving tours is one of the best experiences. Who wouldnt love giving tours of this campus? You see, I really love CU. So, what else is better than getting to talk to a group of strangers about CU and maybe inspiring them to love it just as much? Another reason I enjoy giving tours is that I am able to help students figure out what kind of college experience is right for them--- even if they don’t end up choosing CU. I gave two tours in one day this past week, so of course I'm going to write about it!
On my Student for a Day Tour, a Mom came up to me after to thank me and to tell me she majored in exactly what I am with the hopes of someday changing the world--- just like me. Sometimes, I get so discouraged and overwhelmed with my dreams and it is as though this Mom knew it. She offered me the most calming, encouraging advice- “Don’t worry, don’t stress. Life has a way of working itself out for the best, I promise.”
On my regular weekly tour, I was able to give a son and Dad a “private” tour and at the end he thanked me and told me he was so impressed with the “What Kind of Buff Will You Be” slogan that the Admissions team uses. He said that at the other colleges that they visited, they weren’t really engaged with how his son could fit in on the campuses, but they were at CU. This got me thinking about why I chose CU...
I chose CU because I wanted a big campus, with lots of organizations and activities so I could make CU my very own CU. In my time here I’ve been involved in Student Ambassadors, IAFS Club, Advocates for Choice, Yoga Club, I’ve attended the Conference on World Affairs, and I’ve seen the POTUS speak here 3 times.
What kind of Buff am I?
I’m an Ambassador Buff, an International Affairs Buff, an active Buff…
This is my CU!
CU has given me so many outlets and opportunities to explore and find myself and my path in the world---and as cheesy as that is---that is exactly what you should get out of college.
I think everyone’s CU is different and that no two Buffs are alike---and that's because there is something here for everyone and that is one of the things I love the most about CU.
So…here comes my shameless plug for a campus tour.
If you are at all interested in finding out what kind of Buff you could be, I think you should really come join a campus tour! And maybe even a Student for a Day Tour, seeing as they are my favorite. You will get to experience a mock lecture, a student and parent panel, lunch at the C4C, and of course, a tour of the campus. I think this program is so great because it really shows students what it is like to be a Buff. http://www.colorado.edu/about/visit
I will leave you with this picture I took after my tour as I was walking to class. If this doesn't make you want to visit CU, I dont know what will :)
