Those Great Outdoors!

Hi all!

This past weekend was a three day weekend, due to MLK Day, and I loved having the extra day off!  This entire weekend was great for me because I got to see my sister! My sister Emma is four years older than I am and she lives in Shanghai, China. She works and studies Mandarin there. Last summer, I had the amazing opportunity to go visit her for a month, which was definitely of the best months of my life.  Although it is supremely cool that she lives in China, I don’t get to see her very often.  The last time I saw her was in mid-June.  This weekend, however, she arrived for a 3 week visit!  She got in Thursday night, and after my classes on Friday, I got a ride with a friend down to Denver to see her and spend the weekend with my family.

Even though I just spent most of 3 weeks at home, for Winter Break, it was still nice to go home.  Definitely one of the perks of being from Denver and going to school in-state! This weekend, the weather was beautiful.  It was warm the entire time, and we had temperatures in the 60s on Sunday. Thank you, crazy Colorado weather! On Sunday, my sister left to go spend a few days in South Carolina with my grandparents, and since I was still home, my dad and I decided to go snowshoeing.  It is something we have been wanting to do for a few weeks now, and we finally got the opportunity this weekend!

On Sunday afternoon, we drove about an hour and a half away from my house in Centennial to Kenosha Pass, which is near Bailey, a small town, and which is kind of close to Breckinridge.  It was my first time snowshoeing in a long time, and I LOVED it! It was so fun, and absolutely beautiful.  The weather was amazing, and it was really great spending time with my dad.  I can’t wait to go again!

Yesterday, Monday, I came back to Boulder to have brunch with my roommates.  My should-be-a-professional-chef roommate, Clara, made scones and a potato, leek, and rosemary frittata.  (I got her a cast-iron skillet for Christmas, so I’m really happy she’s using it!) After a few hours of cleaning up my room, doing laundry, and getting organized for the week, my other roommate Andie, Clara, and I drove to Clara’s house, which is near a hiking trail.  We took her puppy Remy, and another dog her family is watching, named Lorenzo, on the hike with us.  We didn’t have much time, because the sun was setting behind the flatirons quicker than we expected, but we still had a great time walking around, playing with the dogs, and getting out of our apartment! It is so nice that we can go hiking just 10 minutes from our apartment in January!   I definitely loved spending time outside this weekend!

Here are some pictures from this weekend!
