Sunny Sunday

Friday, March 14, 2014

Hi guys!
Last weekend was such a blast.  Friday night, I volunteered at an event at the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, which is maybe 20 minutes from Boulder! This semester I joined a group on campus called APO, or Alpha Phi Omega, which is the co-ed service fraternity.  I definitely consider it to be one of the best decisions I’ve made this year because I have met some amazing people and I have been able to help people in need! I have a couple friends who are in it and they encouraged me to join, and I am so happy I did.  I have never been around a group of so many good people, who are friendly, welcoming, and who make sure everyone feels included!  A couple of weeks ago we had the Spring semester retreat, which was a lot of fun! We went up to a retreat center near Estes Park, and spent the weekend playing games, goofing around, making bracelets for children in a hospital in Boulder, and having a ridiculous time! We also had the Pledge ceremony, which was fun because I got my pledge pin and it felt very official.  Here is a picture of my pledge class!

So back to last weekend.  Friday night, I volunteered, Saturday I studied and hung out with friends, and Sunday was absolutely beautiful! It was sunny and around 70 degrees! The field outside my building, in between the Bear Creek Apartments, where I live, and William’s Village North, a residence hall, was full of people relaxing, playing soccer and Frisbee, playing instruments, and studying.  I took some pictures of that, too! It might not look like there are a lot of people, but you will just have to take my word for it!

After an afternoon of studying and spending time outside, I went to volunteer, again with APO, for Meals on Wheels.  We served food to the homeless for about 45 minutes, and we set up and took down all of the tables and equipment.  It felt amazing to donate some of my time to such a good cause, and it definitely made me feel super grateful for what I have and how lucky I have it.  I personally served green beans, but there was also chili, donated by a chef, and a whole variety of pastries and sweets donated by someone who works for Costco.  It feels so good to give back.  I am so happy that joining APO has given me the opportunity to experience such a wonderful feeling! Here we are in front of the truck.

Until next time!
