Olympic Fever

Friday, August 10, 2012

I love the Olympics. The summer Olympics that is, I'm not a huge fan of the winter Olympics. So as you can imagine I have been glued to my TV for the past two weeks catching every event that I can! My favorite event is swimming, because I've been swimming competitively since I was about 6 years old. I've been a Michael Phelps fan since Athens, and I am so happy that he can now call himself the most decorated Olympian in history. What an honor. Kind of bummed that Ryan Lochte didn't really shine this time. But there is always Rio! Gymnastics are also really cool, but it's gotten so confusing with the scoring. What happened to a scale of 1-10 and each country got a vote? Those were simple times...

But as the Olympics and summer are winding down, it's time to get back to business. I just bought all of my books (all 15 of them...lots of Literature courses this semester!) and I've started thinking about what I need to pack. Key word, thinking. I probably won't pack until about two days before I leave. It's a really bad habit and I usually end up forgetting something important like a hairbrush. Speaking of packing though, I wanted to make another list of unexpected things that I wish I had known to bring to school when I was a incoming Freshman!

  1. All of the Black and Gold you can find! At CU Boulder, we LOVE our Buffs! And we show are pride all the time by wearing black and gold, especially during football season. My favorite Buff event is our Blackout game. Each season, the Buffs play a night game (this year the game is on October 11 vs Arizona State) and the entire student section wears all black, creating a blackout on our side of the stadium. It's really fun!

  2. Arts and Craft supplies. Now I know this might sound weird, especially for the guys, but honestly you would be surprised how many times you can find yourself asking people if they have markers. You're not going to want to take the bus all the way to Target every time you want to make a poster for a football or basketball game. Definitely bring scissors too!
  3. A Bleach Pen (like Tide To Go) Not to sound like your mom or anything, but on the days that you wear white and the dining hall just happens to serve pasta, you're going to thank me.

Thos are just the top three that come to mind, but hopefully I can think of some others for next week!
