Before the Home Stretch

Saturday, December 1, 2012

I always feel like the week after a break is (relatively) stress free because I did all my work to catch up over break! But that doesn't mean final tests and projects aren't keeping their distance from me - we have two weeks until finals!

Sunday night, some of my friends arrived at my house at 10:30 insisting we go hike the Boulder Star. The Boulder Star is a giant string of lights hung on poles in the shape of a star on Flagstaff Mountain. Once you drive up Flagstaff a bit, there is a small but VERY steep hill on which the star is laid out. We put on our warmest clothes and hiked up a ten minute stretch of rock and cactus, but finally reached some rocks to sit on and look out on the most GORGEOUS view of Boulder, Colorado at night. We just sat and laughed and sang for an hour while looking for our favorite landmarks lit up across the city. It was a great way to start the week!

I attended the CU vs Texas Southern basketball game Tuesday night. It went into double overtime, finally ending with us winning by five! The game wasn't supposed to be that close, but somehow TSU kept tying with us right before the buzzer! But what was most apparent to me was the CU pride in the stands. Everyone was yelling "Let's go boys!" "Let's do this!" and doing the cheers loud and constantly. I was SO proud to be a Buff that night! Even more proud than usual, which is saying a lot if you've read any other page of my blog :) I attached a picture below of my roommate and best friend and me at the game in row 20! Anymore, the games are so popular that getting there an 45 minutes early will get you the 20th row in the student section. But I'd trade a higher seat if it means more and more fans are coming to cheer on Buffs Basketball!

Then on Thursday night, one of the ministry organizations I attend put on a fundraiser for an orphanage in Belize at Chick-Fil-A. I'm going on a mission trip with the organization over winter break, so I came to help spin a wheel for prizes as working for the event. It'll be a week long in Belize helping to finish up a new building for the orphanage program. We had at least 150 people come through to buy food and therefore donate money! It was a great way to see friends and raise money for our trip. I attached a picture below of some of us with Mr. Kow, the Chick-Fil-A mascot :)

I hope everyone has a great weekend! I have a holiday party and test to study for!
