I remember once when I was little, when my family was travelling around the east coast, we toured the Ben and Jerry’s factory in Vermont. I was maybe 5 or 6 years old, but I still have very distinct memories of being there, walking around, seeing the machines that put ice cream into the cartons, and, of course, the free samples at the end.
Today, that love for ice cream lives on, of course. And living in Boulder and Denver, my passion for ice cream can, how you say, flourish! Ha. But really, there are so many places in Boulder and Denver to get ice cream. I love Bonnie Brae in Denver, as well as Sweet Action, which I tried for the first time this Spring Break! Yesterday and today at CU, we had beautiful weather. Yesterday, it was Free Cone Day at Ben and Jerry’s, which is on Pearl Street. It went from 12pm to 8 pm, and my friends and I went around 6:30pm. I had to be at a meeting at 7:30pm on campus, so we were hoping we would be able to just go in quickly and head out, but we were sadly mistaken! After searching for a parking spot for maybe 15 minutes and walking to Ben and Jerry’s, we saw the line. It was out the door and half way down the block of Pearl. On a different day, we probably would have stayed, to wait it out, but since I had a meeting, we decided to get ice cream a different day.
That day was today! It was 75 degrees today, which made going to my class at 3pm pretty difficult! (But for the record, I did go. And I was really happy I went, because it was really interesting! We were learning about the differences between the pronunciations of certain words and their spellings, which I just loved!) Anyway, after going to class, I came back to my apartment, ready to take a nap, when my friends decided that it was the perfect time to get ice cream! We thought about going to Ben and Jerry’s but instead we decided to go to my roommate’s favorite place she goes every summer. (One of the many perks of being friends with a Boulder native: they know so much about the hidden gems of Boulder!) We went to Glacier Homemade Ice Cream, which has two locations in Boulder. It was awesome! They also have gelato, and I tried tiramisu gelato, Death By Chocolate ice cream, and Snickers Ice Cream, before deciding to go with the always safe bet, Cookie Dough. It was a good choice, because it was the best one of all the ones I tried! What a wonderful study break it was!
Here I am with my two roommates!
