Family Weekend 2011

Monday, October 3, 2011

Hey all-

My post is a little late but I was busy the past week getting my homework done so I could enjoy family weekend!

Family weekend (sometimes referred to as "parent's weekend") is when families travel to CU-Boulder to visit their kids/siblings for the weekend! Starting on Friday, CU has tons of events going on parents and family members can participate in while visiting Boulder and campus. This year, there was a golf tournament, parade on Pearl Street, and a 5k race on Sunday. In addition to the festivities, there is always a home football game parents and family members are encouraged to attend. Unfortunately, we lost against Washington State!!! 27-31 (Still don't know how I feel about that one... C'mon Buffs!) Watch highlights of the game here: http://www.cubuffs.com/SportSelect.dbml&DB_OEM_ID=600&SPID=255&SPSID=3843

(My friends and I at the game this weekend! Go Buffs!)

Luckily, my parents and brother live in-state so I get to see them a lot more throughout the year-not just family weekend. Nonetheless, they still take me out for dinner after every football game. :) One of our favorite places to dine is Pasta Jay's on Pearl. Talk about hearty Italian food... YUM. It is also a local Colorado restaurant!

On Sunday, I ran the 5k Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Denver! The starting time was 7am, so I had to be in Denver by 6:30! (Soooo early) It was totally worth it though. Seeing thousands of people gather for one cause-finding a cure for breast cancer-gives anyone goosebumps. News reports estimate a total of 55,000 people attended the race. The entry fee was $35. Multiply that by 55,000 and we are talking about 1,950,000 donated to the foundation. This was only the Denver race. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, which means more races and fundraisers!! THINK PINK.

(Me, my aunt, and my mom participated in the race!)

Overall, it was a great weekend! Busy, but busy with fun!! This week is suuuuper slammed for me with projects and tests so i might not get to my next post until the weekend but I promise I will!

Take care everyone!!!!!
