CU Basketball season is in full swing! Our record currently includes only one loss, which was our first game of the season to Baylor. Tonight we have the CU vs CSU game in Fort Collins, and I think we are favored to win by quite a bit! Over my thanksgiving break, my parents and I came up for the CU vs Harvard basketball game. For the first 3 periods of the game, the Buffs were losing. But in the fourth quarter, we pulled ahead and never looked back! It was a great win for us and a great game for my parents to have come to!
If you've read much of my blog before, you know I love CU sporting events for much more than just watching the players play. I attend for the perks (free Chipotle burrito cards and CU gear!), the halftime shows (the tumbling, Chip the mascot, Ralphie and her runner team, and the traditions). That being said, this game was one for the scrapbook. I followed two of my Ralphie Runner friends down into the practice gym before the game to pass time before sitting in my seat, when I came across Betty and Peggy - two of CU's most famous alumni! These twin sisters (graduates of '46) have been attending home games religiously for the past 34 years, always wearing matching outfits to accompany their pom-poms. It's been on my bucketlist since freshman year to meet these two and I finally crossed it off the list! Betty and I chatted about my major and the C-Unit, the CU student section's name for itself, and she suggested that I get tickets to sit with the twins next year as an alumni. I hope I made a promise I can keep :)
CU traditions as well as famous people and places really make for an entire gameday experience. Between Ralphie, Chip (and his parents!), and Betty and Peggy, our basketball games are full of entertainment besides the talent and cohesive nature of our team. I hope that you future Buffs get the chance to meet Betty and Peggy someday too - they sure are dedicated to this special place! PS. Peggy and Betty, if you two are reading this, know how thankful we are for your support! And you two are the sweetest! GO Buffs!
One of my most cherished memories at CU so far!
