Prescreening Guide

CU-Boulder students are expected to have completed appropriate course work in mathematics, science, language and the humanities. Be aware that satisfaction of minimum academic standards, while mandatory, is only one factor in securing admission to the university.

Freshman requirements

  • Applicants should have a minimum average grade equivalent to the US grade of “B” (80% and above) on the following certificates:
    • Various Year 12 Senior Certificates
      • ACT Year 12 Certificate
      • NSW Higher School Certificate
      • Northern Territory Certificate of Education
      • Queensland Senior Certificate
      • South Australian Certificate of Education

  • Engineering and Applied Science: Transfer applicants must have taken courses relevant to an engineering curriculum, including at least 2 semesters of college-level calculus along with 2 semesters of calculus-based physics and/or college-level chemistry. Grades in math, science and engineering courses should be an 80% (B) or above on the U.S. grading scale, or:
    • A grade of 5, Credit, 65%-74%, 60%-69% Ranking
  • Business: Preference is given to students who have completed finite math (or college algebra), calculus, microeconomics and macroeconomics. Overall minimum course average must be an 80% (B) or above on the U.S. grading scale, or:
    • A grade of 5, Credit, 65%-74%, 60%-69% Ranking
  • Arts and Sciences: Overall minimum course average must be a 75% (C) or above on the U.S. grading scale, or:

Brazil

Freshman requirements

Transfer requirements

  • Engineering and Applied Science: Transfer applicants must have taken courses relevant to an engineering curriculum, including at least 2 semesters of college-level calculus along with 2 semesters of calculus-based physics and/or college-level chemistry.  Grades in math, science, and engineering courses should be 7.0 on the Brazilian grading scale. Overall minimum course average must be 7.0 on the Brazilian grading scale.
  • Business: Preference is given to students who have completed finite math (or college algebra), calculus, microeconomics, and macroeconomics. Overall minimum course average must be 7.0 on the Brazilian grading scale.
  • Arts and Sciences: Overall minimum course average must be 6.0 on the Brazilian grading scale.

  • Music: An audition or audition recording is required of all applicants. Overall minimum course average must be 6.5 on the Brazilian grading scale.

Freshman Requirements

  • Applicants should have a minimum average of B (70%-79%) on any one of the following Secondary School Leaving Certificates:
    • Senior Year High School Diploma

Transcripts for Students from China and India

Students from China and India must be particularly careful to submit complete, official academic credentials (for university-level work). Every page of each document must bear an original stamp or seal of the institution. Chinese students must submit transcripts and diplomas in both Chinese and English and must submit diplomas showing every degree awarded. Credentials sent from notary publics are not accepted as official. Students from India must submit individual mark sheets for each semester or year, in addition to separate diplomas showing every degree awarded.
