Information for Faculty About the Honor Code

Reporting a Violation

Reporting violations allows the University Community to uphold its academic integrity standards. It is expected that all violations will be reported by Faculty members to the Honor Code.

In the case where a faculty member believes that a violation of the Honor Code may have occurred, the University Community expects the faculty member will either choose to confront the student(s) personally, or may instead choose to delegate the responsibility for assessing whether the alleged violation has actually occurred to the Honor Council.

In the event that the faculty member decides to meet with the student(s) personally it may be necessary to report an violation of the Honor Code.

  • If the student accepts responsibility for the violation and the academic sanction identifid by the faculty member, the faculty member is expected to submit a violation report form detailing the finding and any academic sanctions issued. After receipt of a violation report from to the Honor Council the Council will refer to a student's file to determine if there were previous sanctions that would necessitate further non-academic sanctioning. If no further action is necessary the violation will go on file with the individual school or college and the honor code office.
