Equipment Fabrications have a new process beginning January 2, 2013. When you request a fabrication tag number, Patty will also set up a new subclass SpeedType tied to the project number associated with the fabrication. All costs for the fabrication will then be coded to that SpeedType. The goal is to provide a more accurate and consistent documentation of costs when the fabrication is put into service and when the project/award is closed out.
The first step in this process is the same as before: request a fabrication tag from Patty.Patterson@colorado.edu. She or someone from Property Accounting will walk you through the rest of the process. Your role is to inform the fabrication purchaser about the SpeedType and remind them to enter the tag# early within the description to ensure proper coding if the SpeedType is missed.
There is not room here to go over all the "what ifs" but a group of 12 departmental end users came up with several and we are confident this process is a big improvement over our current system. All you will need to do is let Patty know up front if this is a single or multi-project fabrication. She has a checklist to capture the key information needed at setup.
