SUBJECT: Resolution on Faculty Development Budget (to accompany proposed Amendment to the Laws of the Regents Regarding Evaluation of Faculty)

I. REQUEST FOR ACTION (at the October 1997 meeting or whenever the Amendment to the Laws of the Regents Regarding Evaluation of Faculty is adopted)

RESOLVED that the administration is directed to establish a faculty development budget that provides resources for faculty development during the 1998-99 and subsequent budget cycles.

II. STATEMENT OF INFORMATION

The proposed Amendment to the Laws of the Regents Regarding Evaluation of Faculty calls for a faculty member who is determined to be performing inadequately or with deficiencies (as indicated by the annual merit performance evaluation process) to be required to participate in developing and implementing a performance improvement agreement (PIA) designed to improve his or her performance. This resolution will provide for annual budget planning to fund these faculty development efforts.

Initial notice of motion for the proposed amendment to the Laws is given at the meeting of August 7; continued notice is scheduled for the meeting of September 11.
