Jean Dubofsky Scholarship in Women and Gender Studies
In the spring of 1991, University of Colorado Journalism Professor, Dr. Joanne E. Arnold, donated funds to establish the first undergraduate scholarship in women's studies. The scholarship is named after the first woman to serve on the Colorado Supreme Court and a Boulder attorney working in civil rights issues. Since its establishment 16 students have received this award.
Requirements
In order to qualify for the award, an applicant must:
1. Be enrolled at CU-Boulder as a full-time student registered for a minimum of nine credit hours;
2. Be officially declared as a Women and Gender Studies major;
3. Have successfully completed a minimum of six credit hours at CU-Boulder in Women and Gender Studies with a 3.0 cumulative gpa;
4. Not be a graduating senior.
Applicants will be evaluated based on:
1. Academic record;
2. Education and career goals;
3. Community (including campus) service;
4. Demonstrated commitment to raising awareness of the intersection of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, class and nationality, among others; and
5. Financial need.
Application
To apply, students must submit the following materials:
1. An application form, which includes the names of two references;
2. An essay (typed double-spaced, minimum five pages) in which the applicant discusses her/his qualifications for the award and the role of women's studies in creating social change;
3. An academic writing sample;
4. Current CU transcripts (Transfer students must also submit previous transcripts if courses count toward a student's CU degree and GPA);
5. A current resume; and
6. Any other supporting materials.
Application Deadline
March 15 annually
Scholarship awards will be announced at the Joanne Easley Arnold Annual Scholarship and Awards Luncheon in mid-April and will be applied to the recipient's fall tuition. The award winner also receives a certificate.

Community Service Award in Women and Gender Empowerment
The Community Service Award in Women and Gender Empowerment honor graduating senior students who have demonstrated their commitment to service and justice through on or off-campus volunteer work. Award winners receive a certificate and a $200 award.
Requirements
Candidates will be judged on their record of exceptional educational, humanitarian, civic, or other service to their community. Specific requirements are that the candidates:
1. Be full-time student and a Women's Studies major or minor.
2. Provide documentation of 150 or more hours of volunteer on or off-campus service within their academic career (i.e. a letter from the service organization, timesheets, etc...)
3. A reflection paper that discusses experience of service, and
4. Have not received the award previously.
Nomination
1. Anyone may nominate the candidate (faculty, staff, students, service agencies); self nominations are accepted.
2. Supporting materials are to be assembled by the nominator and must include: the nominating letter; a one-page description of the candidate's community service activities; and two supporting letters from persons within or outside the University community who have direct knowledge of the nature and benefit of the community service; a copy of the nominee's current curriculum vitae; any other supporting materials related to the candidate's community service activities.
3. The supporting materials should be sent to the Hazel Gates-Woodruff Cottage, University of Colorado, UCB 246, Boulder, Colorado 80309.
Nomination Deadline
