Volunteering at the WRC:
Volunteer experiences in their own words

When asked "Why did you enjoy your volunteer experience at the WRC?" previous volunteers replied:

“I really enjoyed getting to know women who are interested and passionate about the same things I am. The “W” is a positive and welcoming environment that has given me a better sense of community on such a large campus. Also, volunteering here allowed me the opportunity to become involved in other organizations/clubs and to take part in many outside activities”

----------

“At first I was unsure about volunteering here because I didn’t feel like I fit in with the girls. After getting to know everyone I felt so welcome and really enjoyed working with all the girls. My favorite part was opening up and meeting new people”

----------

“Getting involved in outreach on campus and the community. I liked how much more informed I feel about activist projects on campus”

----------

“The wonderful, energetic, and knowledgeable women both volunteers, staff and visitors”

----------

“The relationships that grew out of the center and the connections the W helped me make with other students and/or clubs and organizations on campus. I’ve met some pretty amazing people”

----------

“ I learned that I could do more than I thought I was capable of. I learned a lot about language and how that effects different diverse groups on campus”

----------

“ I always learn new stuff.. especially about how to move my ideas into action.”

----------

“I learned about commitment, passion, and love from people who care to make this world a better place. Also, a reassuring and positive outlook on activist work”

----------

“I learned more about organizing events, more about being a disability ally, and more about activism in performance”

----------

“Most importantly, I learned that my actions are extremely important. Even though I’m one person, the way I act and respond to things around me can produce change in others, action goes hand in hand with activism.”

----------

“I learned about everyday ways to effect social change”

----------

“I learned how many different forms activism can take, ways to gain strength from others, found a lot of great books, magazines etc. that I otherwise wouldn’t have known about”
