K-12 Policy Presentations

These guest presentations in K-12 schools address the subject of youth empowerment and citizenship. They proceed from the premise that since young people are affected by public policies, they have the right to respond, and their voices should count. Accordingly, the presentations help students to identify not only issues that concern them, but also resources and opportunities for voicing their concerns to the media and directly to public officials. No attempt is made to shape the students’ public-policy preferences. Rather students are encouraged to discuss policy issues from all perspectives, to seek consensus positions, and to communicate with young people outside their school in order to maximize their influence on public discourse.
