Lynn Parisi has served the CU Boulder and surrounding communities as a global citizen working across borders and deepening understandings of East Asian history and culture. In 1998, she established the Program for Teaching East Asia as a program of outreach and professional development for K-12 teachers who are interested in enhancing their curriculum and instruction about East Asia. She also directs the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA), a program of 30-hour seminars and other enrichment activities regarding East Asian studies and instruction for secondary teachers in ten states. Lynn has made a real difference at CU. She has engaged faculty in Asian studies from disciplines across campus in the projects she directs, assisting faculty in reaching a broader audience in the schools and community and she guides graduate and undergraduate students. Lynn is an excellent global citizen who has strengthened international education and understanding at a national level Balnur Zhaleleva, who arrived in the U.S. in 2006, has been a key leader in the Boulder campus community. As a new student, she quickly joined the International Festival Committee (IFC), the group that organizes the annual International Festival. Balnur took on various leadership roles within the IFC, first serving on the Fundraising Committee, then as Treasurer, and finally as a Co-Chair of the IFC. She also serves as one of two Masters of Ceremony during the festival itself. In addition to her work on the IFC, Balnur is one of the student leaders who helped create CU International, the international student organization on campus. Balnur is active in the larger campus community as well. Two years ago she was part of a diversity panel for CU's Diversity Summit. She is now President of the 2009 Senior Council and Treasurer of the CU Diversity Commission. She is an excellent model of leadership for other students. Lyndia McGauhey and her classmates spent 17 days living and working with villagers, gathering information, writing profiles, and taking photos in communities affected by violations of Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights in Northeast Thailand. Lyndia was responsible for the layout and overall look of the reports, making her one of two primary editors. The overall object was to create reports that put human faces onto a legal analysis. The reports were to be launched at the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand in a run-up to the United Nations' Human Rights Day on December 10th. 2008 Winners:
