BFA in Musical Theatre Application Information

Thank you for your interest in applying for the BFA in Musical Theatre degree. There are multiple steps in the application process which you must complete. The following text is a resource for you to follow as you proceed through the application process. You may want to print out this page and check off the steps as you complete them. Please note that some steps do not necessarily have to be completed in this order. (Some of the forms listed below require Adobe® Reader® to download. STEP 1 - Read Admissions Information
Read information about
admission to the BFA in Musical Theatre in the Department of Theatre & Dance, College of Arts & Sciences. Also read information about requirements for the major.

STEP 2 - Visit us!
Prospective students and parents are invited to visit campus and the Theatre & Dance Department (please call 303-492-7355 and make an appointment).

STEP 3 - Submit your application to the University of Colorado
You may submit your application online or by mail. All instructions and forms can be found at the CU Admissions site. Information is included for incoming freshmen, transfer students, international students, and others. Complete all of the necessary steps on that site.

STEP 4 - Complete the BFA in Musical Theatre Pre-audition Application
Print, complete and return the audition application form.

STEP 5 - Submit essay to the Theatre & Dance Dept.
In an original essay, tell us why you would like to be a musical theatre major and what your future goals are as a performer. Please describe your most powerful musical experience as well. If you wish, comment on your musical theatre background or any other things you would like us to know about. This essay should be double-spaced and typed. It should be no longer than one page. Send it with your application if possible or bring it to your audition. (You may substitute a copy of the essay written for the university application for this requirement if you wish.)

STEP 6 - Submit at least one reference
Using the BFA in Musical Theatre Undergraduate Recommendation Form, submit at least one recommendation from a voice teacher who knows your musical ability. An optional second reference should be another person who knows you well -- a music, dance, and/or theatre teacher is preferred, but another teacher, counselor, or member of the community is acceptable.

STEP 7 - Mail Application
Mail application, essay, reference (in a signed, sealed envelope), and recording* to: Bud Coleman, Dept. of Theatre & Dance, 261 UCB, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO 80309.
*Recording (CD, DVD, cassette tape, videotape) consists of you singing two songs.

If you pass the pre-audition, you will be invited to campus for a live audition. In 2009, vocal auditions will be January 31, February 7, and February 14 on the CU Boulder campus.
