Averill Hovey is in her first season as Assistant Coach for the Buffalos. Prior to CU, Averill, was a Division 1, starting midfielder for the University of Denver and served four years as the Head Girl's Lacrosse Coach at Denver East High School. The Boston native posted a 38-24-3 (.631) mark as Head Coach at East, including four consecutive State Tournament appearances. Her final season as Head Coach, the Angels finished out the year ranked fourth having lost in the semifinal game to Cherry Creek High School. The Angels finished in the top-10 in the state rankings the past four seasons under Averill.

During Averill's tenure she helped to build the credibility and consistency of the East Program: 14 players were named Academic All Americans, while ten received 1st Team All League recognition. In addition, two players received All State recognition and one received All American Honorable Mention, the second player to be recognized as an All-American in program history.

Averill has held a number of coaching positions in a variety of sports. In addition to coaching lacrosse at East, Averill has also coached for various elite, high school, travel and Colorado National teams during the summer. She has also worked with youth programs, and clinics. She coached field hockey at the high school level for three years. She is a PSIA certified ski instructor and has been teaching children ages 7-14 for Vail Resorts for the past seven years.

Averill graduated form the University of Denver in 2001 with a B.A. in Communications. She also completed her Masters Degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Colorado. Currently, she is an elementary school teacher at the Golden Independent School, and is hoping to pursue her Yoga Teacher Certification, Personal Training and Nutrition Specialist License by this fall. She comes from a very athletic family her father being a strong DU lacrosse player as well, and her mother a great skier. Her brother, Elliot, is in pursuit of a trip to the 2008 Olympics in the sport of crew.

Averill is extremely excited to be working with the CU squad and with Gary again (whom she coached with in 2003.) She loves that she has been given the opportunity to work with such a talented group of players and cannot wait to see the successes that they will achieve in the upcoming season. Go Buffs!
