Dela Botri

Bantaba World Dance & Music

8:00pm.

$5, FREE for all students w/ ID

Dela Botri is the founder and leader of Hewale Sounds, the Ghanaian traditional instrumental, vocal, and drumming ensemble.  He is a virtuoso
atentebe (vertical flute) player, as well as an accomplished vocalist and percussionist.  He played with the Pan African Orchestra from 1990-1994, a
group that specializes in traditional African music by using instruments from the many diverse African cultures.  In 1996 Dela formed Hewale Sounds in
Accra, Ghana, to play traditional music and new compositions arranged for traditional instruments.

Dela recorded "Bakuye" in 2001, an album of traditional instruments and original compositions with African vocalists and composers.  The Mirror
(
Accra) states that the album, released in 2003, "is a clear signal and challenge to hiplife musicians to end their reliance on borrowed beats and
rhythms."  Dela has travelled to South Africa, Norway, the United Kingdom, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, and the United States to perform, and has performed
with musicains such as Stevie Wonder and Sharon Katz.

Joining Dela will be Maputo Mensah, Adjei Abankwah, and other local musicians for an evening of traditional African and highlife music.

More dates will become available, so keep checking in. Doors usually open 30 minutes before the show. To keep updated, you can sign up for our email list here.
