God Provides
October 2003

October is upon us, which means that we are already half way through the semester. Many of us have already taken our first wave of midterms, and have just started to study for the next wave. Everyone is feeling the stress and pressure of school; whether it's the freshman that has just completed their first test, or the senior who is interviewed for their first professional job. But, many of us are still wondering, why am I here? What do I want to do with my life? Why are we taking these tests that torture us physically and mentally? I for one still wonder: what does God have in store for me for the future?

People worry and stress over these questions constantly. I still don't know what God has in store for me. But I am encouraged by Jesus' words in Matthew 6:31-34.

So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

This passage holds a deep meaning in my heart. I have experienced the abundant provisions of the Lord. I know that if I lift up my burdens, my stress, my worries to him, then he will provide in the most amazing ways.

So does this mean that we can live a carefree life? No it does not. With God's grace comes a responsibility. We still must do our jobs. We must seek his kingdom and his righteousness. We must live our lives according to his word and teachings, and persevere to the end. Life is not a cake walk. God will provide the way and the tools; it is still our job to use them to further his glory.

Although I still do not know for sure what God has planned for me, I know that it will be good. I know that he will provide me with everything I need, and comfort me when I feel lost. I may not know what will happen in the days or years to come. But I know that if I live my life to glorify Him, then I have no need to worry.

Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
