ABOUT OUR WORSHIP

During the academic year we will be offering two worship services weekly at Grace Lutheran Church on the Hill.  Sunday night worship will be held upstairs in the main sanctuary beginning at 5:00 pm.  We also will hold a Thursday night service at 5:30 pm, downstairs in the fellowship hall at Grace. After the Sunday service, dinner will be served downstairs, and for the Thursday night worship a light soup supper will be provided.

Worship is at the heart of our life together as a community.  This year we are trying some different approaches to our worship services
to make them more accessible to students without a Lutheran background, and even any faith background.  On Sunday nights, we will
be using a St. Thomas Mass format which involves various areas in the sanctuary as  places of prayer & meditation, with candles, icons, beautiful music, time for sharing the Lord's Supper, and a reflection on a Biblical text.  This worship is very accessible for people with little experience of worship, as well as being meaningful for those used to more "traditional forms".  Join us to experience God's peace and renewed hope and joy through scripture, quiet space and resting in God.

On Thursday nights, beginning September 3, we will gather around a table for dinner, but also for a time of creative questions, reflection on a Biblical story and sharing a true "Agape Meal" like in the time of Jesus where his disciples would share food and conversation.  We will share the Eucharist and enjoy food and deeper conversation, as well as providing a light soup supper for all who come.  We may alternate this style of worship with one in the style of the Taize community in France, which is a very meditative, chant like music that contains songs from all over the world.  This service is simple, 30 minutes in length, candelit and we sit on the floor. Come and join us!

During Holy Week in the Spring Semester we participate with two local ELCA congregations, Grace and Atonement Lutheran Churches in celebrating Ash Wednesday and the three Holy Week Services: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil.
