2008 Spring Season
American Intercollegiate Rowing Association Club Nationals
May 24-25 2008
The University of Colorado was one of the founding schools of the first ever crew club nationals, held in windy Oklahoma City. Athletes traveled through hurricane force winds for many hundreds of miles to attend. This regatta was not only one of the biggest this season, but it was one of the most memorable. Four of our athletes were selected as regional all-Americans, and many more of our athletes recieved scholastic all-American certificates. Below are the results.
| Mens Varsity 8 | 12th - 7:04.9 |
| Womens Varsity 8 | 5th - 8:16.3 |
| Mens Novice 8 | 7th - 6:58.3 |
| Womens Novice 4 | 6th - 9:07.2 |
The ACRA club nationals went down into the books as a great race for all crews that attended. Although the weather was poor both days, crew athletes do not get depressed easily, and we managed to have a great time regardless! The van rides home were a different story...![]()
Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships
May 3-4 2008
Usually for University of Colorado rowers the spring season peaks and ends at the WIRA championships in Sacramento, California. This year ACRAs still loomed overhead, but athletes did not let this change how they performed. Weather this year was, in the words of rower Alex Schnell, "phenominal." Temperatures were in the high 70s to mid 80s, there was no wind or cloud above, and the food table remained loaded as always by our wonderful parents and supporters of Colorado Crew.
| Mens Varsity 8 | 10th - 6:20.2 |
| Womens Varsity 8 | 6th - 7:13.8 |
| Mens Novice 8 | 7th - 6:27.1 |
| Womens Novice 4 | 6th - 8:27.4 |
San Diego Crew Classic
April 5-6 2008
For novice rowers, the San Diego Crew Classic was the first real regatta of the spring racing season, and boy was it a shocker! Over 3500 athletes from more than 100 clubs and universities participate in this 30-year old event, many from some of the most prestigious and renowned rowing schools in the United States, such as Harvard and Yale. Not only did we get to witness some A-grade rowing, we got to participate and race these crews. The weather was as perfect as is could be, with slight breezes to fend of the beach-like heat.
| Mens Varsity 8 | 11th - 6:12.45 |
| Womens Varsity 8 | 17th - 7:36.35 |
| Mens Novice 8 | 17th - 6:33.23 |
| Womens Novice 8 | 10th - 7:41.11 |
