Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are free for students, and can be picked up in the University Memorial Center (UMC) across from Baby Does with a valid Buff OneCard from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. and are limited to two per student. Tickets are $5 for community members and can be purchased online at http://macky.colorado.edu.
Tim Wise, prominent anti-racist writer and educator, will speak in Macky Auditorium at the University of Colorado Boulder Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Wise has been called, “One of the most brilliant, articulate and courageous critics of white privilege in the nation,” and was named one of “25 Visionaries who are Changing Your World,” by Utne Reader in 2010. He has spoken in all 50 states of the U.S., on over 800 college and high school campuses, and to community groups across the nation on issues of comparative racism, race and education, racism and religion, and racism in the labor market.
Wise is the author of six books, including the highly acclaimed memoir, White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son. He has also produced an academic volume on affirmative action, Affirmative Action: Racial Preference in Black and White and an essay collection, Speaking Treason Fluently: Anti-Racist Reflections From an Angry White Male. He received the 2001 British Diversity Award for best feature essay on race issues, and his writings have appeared in dozens of popular, professional and scholarly journals.
