Alpha Kappa Psi

If you're looking for a great way to meet other students dedicated to academics, professionalism, brotherhood and community service, then Alpha Kappa Psi may be a good fit for you. We selectively recruit at the beginning of each semester from all schools at the university (our membership is not restricted to business majors).

Alpha Kappa Psi is not a club; it is a professional coed business fraternity, and the social aspects of our fraternity are equally as important as the professional aspects. Alpha Kappa Psi is a lifelong commitment; your involvement in our organization does not end when you graduate.

Who can rush?

Unlike other business fraternities, Alpha Kappa Psi does not limit membership to just students pursuing a degree in business or economics. Anyone can rush AKPsi, even non-business majors. We stress this point because we feel it is this unique characteristic that helps build our strong brotherhood. All that we require is that anyone interested in rushing have a 2.25 GPA or higher and demonstrate a strong interest in business, economics, or related fields.

What do we do?

This question is probably best answered on our photos page. We pride ourselves on our balance of professionalism and brotherhood. Some of our events are focused on professional development: we host guest speakers, alumni networking events, and the occasional mock interview. Other events strive to create brotherhood amongst our members: we host broomball tournaments, fraternity retreats in Steamboat Springs, the occasional 80's party, and paintballing excursions, just to name a few. The best part - every event that takes place is coordinated from start to finish by our membership. You will be amazed at how much you learn from taking on such leadership opportunities.

What sort of students do we look for?

We selectively admit students whom we think strive for the same ideals that we do: brotherhood, integrity, unity, knowledge, and service. While strong academics are admirable, we seek a balanced individual who is as outgoing and sociable as they are ambitious and hard-working. In other words, GPA is a consideration in our admittance decision, but it is not the top factor. Our average GPA is over a 3.2, and our minimum GPA is a 2.25. Our best advice is to attend our rush events and decide for yourself if you are a fit with our culture (Check out Delta Sig, too).

Meet and Greet at the UMC Connection (Bowling Alley)

Once you've decided that AKPsi is right for you, we want to make sure you're a perfect match for us. Therefore, we need you to bring a resume, cover letter, and questionnaire to our "Meet and Greet" event. Don't worry, this meeting is entirely casual - we just need your resume, cover letter, and questionnaire for later. Keep this resume and cover letter advice in mind. At the Meet and Greet, you'll have a chance to meet our current members, hang out, and make some new friends in an entirely casual atmosphere. This night is crucial because it's one of our deciding factors during pledge selection. Remember, the dress is casual.

Interviews

Our night of interviews will give each potential pledge an opportunity to present him or herself in a professional environment. Unfortunately not everyone is guaranteed an interview. You can expect an interview with our membership to feel very similar to an interview for a job. We will want to hear how you strive to embody our ideals of brotherhood, integrity, service, unity and knowledge. Interviews will take place Tuesday, September 15th starting at 7:00 PM. Dress is business-professional (wear a suit if you have it). Like any interview, please arrive early.

Bids

After our rush process, we may or may not issue a bid to join our pledge class. If you receive and accept a bid, you are not yet a full member of Alpha Kappa Psi; you must successfully complete our pledge process. The pledge process is a semester long program designed to test whether you are a good fit for our membership and our ideals. We reserve the right to drop you from our membership at any point during the semester-long pledge process. You cannot pledge (accept a bid) from both Alpha Kappa Psi and Delta Sigma Pi. However, you can rush both fraternities. Please visit Delta Sig's website and choose one accordingly.

Expectations

Our recruitment process is selective. We typically receive interest from over 100 rushes each semester. We plan on cutting that number in half before the interviews, and then we cut it in half again before we extend bids, leaving us with around 25-30 pledges in our pledge class. We expect to initiate 90% of those pledges as members after the pledge process is over. It's a selective process, but don't be discouraged - we are not looking for perfect students - we are looking for brothers.
