Membership
Club Pictures
The CU Figure Skating Club is open to all CU Boulder students and all skaters who are members of the CU  recreation center aged 18 or older.  You may join the CU Figure Skating Club at any time throughout the year.

As a member of the club, you are eligible to participate in all club practice time, perform your program in the October and December exhibitions and skate in the spring ice show. You can also join the USFSA through the CU Figure Skating Club and represent CU in competitions. Members who participate in Figure Skating Club fund raising events are also eligible to have competition registration fees paid by the club.

It costs $15 for membership to the CU Figure Skating Club through September of the following year.  All club members are required to have a current waiver on file with the club sports office. Contact one of the club officers to obtain one.

Practice All on ice practice is at the Recreation Center Ice Rink  We have a coach who is available for free drop in help and private lessons.

Summer Club Ice Time: 12:15-1:15 pm on Saturdays
This ice time is used as an open freestyle, moves in the field, and dance session. This is an excellent time to get in some extra practice over the summer, without dodging out of control hockey players! There is no coaching availible during club ice for the summer session.

Tuesday and Thursday 6:30-8:30 am Open Freestyle, Moves in the Field, and Dance
Ice time is treated as an open freestyle/dance/moves in the field during which time you are free to practice your program, get a lesson from the club's coach or just work on your crossovers, if that's what you want to do. If you would like help preparing a program, the club's coach can choreograph or give advice and the other skaters are always willing to help. This practice time will be used for regularly scheduled clinics from 7:00-8:00 am on certain Thursdays.  Regularity to be determined by interest levels at the informational meeting.

Tuesday and Thursday am Power Stroking
Half hour of the morning ice time is reserved for power stroking, when all levels of skaters are encouraged to work on their speed, technique, presentation and endurance.

Tuesday and Thursday 8:30-9:00 am
Following the practice, we hold an informal stretching and torso strengthening session for those who want to stay.

Our morning practice ice may occasionally be reserved for skating clinics with guest coaches, to which all club members are invited. Clinics focus on spins, jumps, footwork, spirals and spread eagles. Topics are decided by club members and depend on the availability of appropriate instructors. If you have ideas, please send them to the club mailing list.

Off Ice Training
The speed skating club is allowing us to participate in their off ice training on Mon. and Wed. nights from 6:30 to 8 in the Balch Fieldhouse.  Please come early to warm up and wear running clothes (tee-shirt, shorts, running shoes) and bring sweatpants or a warmup suit for outside activities.  They usually concentrate on plyometrics, strength, and endurance.  For more information contact Susan Brummer.

Activities The Figure Skating Club sponsors an informal exhibition in October and another in December in which all club members have the opportunity to prepare and perform a program. In the spring, the club produces the spring ice show, which is our major fund raising activity and requires the help of all members to produce. In exchange, members who do help are eligible to have the club pay for their competition registration fees.

We hold   meetings twice a month throughout the school year (second and fourth monday of each month). Each April, we elect a President, Vice President/Test Chair and Secretary/Treasurer for the school year. We will also need coordinators for the ice show in the following areas: music, costumes, set, program, bake sale and registration.

Our fall 2000 orginizational meeting is Thursday, August 31 from 5-6 p.m. in conference rooms 1 & 2.

Spring Ice Show
Ice Show Pictures
Each April, the CU Figure Skating Club produces the Spring Ice Show.  This is a two or three performance show with over 125 skaters including a guest skater, learn to skate students, morning freestyle skaters and club members.  Preparation starts in the fall, when we select the theme and music and start designing costumes and props.  All skaters who wish to participate in the show must pay a registration fee during the registration period in February.  Club members, who volunteer their time to run various parts of the show, are exempt from this fee.  In the fall, the club selects a producer for the show as well as coordinators for music, costumes and the set.  We will also need coordinators for the program, tickets and flyers, the bake sale, registration, volunteers and publicity in the Spring.  The show is a huge production and is a lot of fun to help organize.  If you are interested in participating in the show or helping out, please come to the club meetings in the fall.

For a list of coordinators needed and their job descriptions click here.

  • a copy of the completed registration form, detailing which events you entered; and

  • a copy of the page of the registration pack that details all of the prices, if the prices for the events are not on the registration form.

Coach Ruth Williams (303) 786-8862 ruthwilliams24 @hotmail.com
  • The president is responsible for running meetings, working with the coach to arrange clinics, finding coaches and instructors, applying for USFSA sanctions for exhibitions, making sure all skaters have submitted a completed waiver card before they participate in any CU Figure Skating Club activity, checking the figure skating club mailbox and voice mail box each week and turning in monthly participation reports.  The president serves as the liaison between the club and the club sports office.
  • The vice president is responsible for assisting the president in her activities.  She is also the test and competition chair for the club, which means she must provide letters of permission to club members wishing to test at other clubs and maintain test records as they are sent to the club.  She will also maintain records of all competition results of CU skaters and provide them to Kris in a timely manner.
  • The secretary/treasurer must take minutes of all the meetings and post them to the club's email mailing list or arrange for someone else to do so if she cannot make it to the meeting.  She is also responsible for preparing the annual budget, which is due in January.  She is also the membership chair, and as such, is responsible for maintaining records of who is an active member and collecting dues from members.
  • The coach is not an officer, but does participate in developing training activities for the members and is available at on-ice practices for free lessons.
All officers are expected to attend the club sports coaches and officers meetings and one officer must attend all club sports council meetings.  The officers must also hold a budget meeting with Kris by September 15th.  Though the roles of each of the officers is defined, the officers are expected to help each other fulfill their duties and to work together for the benefit of the club.
Uniforms Because skating is such an individualistic sport, we do not have uniforms. We do, however, usually purchase club jackets in the fall. Jackets are black nylon with full zippers down the front, zipped pockets, a stylish collar and cotton lining. They have the CU figure skating club logo on the front left, "Colorado Figure Skating" on the back, and you can have your name monogrammed on the right front.

Jackets will be $35 and orders are due by October 24th.  Order forms are available on the figure skating bulletin board next to the skate shop.  Leggings with the CU figure skating club logo embroidered on the hip are also available for $26.
