What is the Class?

En garde!!

Ever wanted to get involved in fencing and didn't know how? Ever pictured yourself as the fourth Musketeer? The Rec Center offers tons of great, inexpensive classes and our fencing club teaches an introductory fencing class for the Rec Center twice a semester. Hear what people have said!

Who can take the class?

There are two criteria for being able to take the class. First, you need access to the rec center. Students, faculty, alumni and their family members can all get access. Check with the rec center. Second, you've got to be able to safely engage in moderate levels of exercise. A few criteria we suggest:

  • Being able to jog from one end of the gym to the other without stopping to catch your breath.
  • Being able to skip smoothly and safely.
You don't need to be an endurance athlete; you can always take as many breaks as you need during the class.

When is it?

Our first class of the Spring 2008 semester (probably) starts on January 29th, at 6:00PM in the east end of the rec center's general gym. Check back here closer to the start of the semester, or check with the business desk of the rec center.

How much does it cost, and what do I get for my money?

The class is $30. You get six weeks, 12 sessions of instruction, and the use of our equipment. That would cost anywhere from $90 to $120 elsewhere in the state. In addition, you can stay with us for the remainder of the semester and continue learning at no cost, receiving lessons from our instructors for free, as time permits. (It is hard to put a dollar figure on this, as it depends on how hard you're willing to work. Regardless, it wouldn't be cheaper anywhere else.) If after that first semester, you want to stay with us, it is a meager $35 per semester, and you can continue using our equipment and working with our instructors.

Feel free to contact our officers if you have any questions.
