Our group is comprised of folks of many different levels of experience and ability. One doesn't need to in great physical condition or posses great stregth and flexibility to start learning capoeira angola. Anybody can learn Capoeira Angola! Mestre Joao Grande often says that Capoeira Angola is like a plant growing up from the ground. It grows slowly but surely with water and sunlight. Many people have come to our group with no capoeira experience. You might say " I'm not the least bit flexible ", that's all right. There are people in our group who surprise themselves with the contortions they manage to learn. One doesn't need to have great musical abilities either. People who have never sung before find themselves singing when they least expect it. Our group was founded in Feburary of 1998 by Larry Stephenson. We started out with just a few of us training in the Balch Fieldhouse and subsequently moved to a classroom space as our size increased. A major milestone came when our club received funding from the University of Colorado Student Union in 1999 to take a group of students to study at Joao Grande's Capoeira Angola Academy. Our club has been affiliated with the Capoeira Angola Center of Mestre Joao Grande since November of 2000. Mestre Joao Grande has visited us here to conduct workshops and performances several times. He first visited in November of 2000 and subsequently returned March of 2002, as well as September of 2005
