WHAT IS ALAS?

ALAS was created in 1998 by students from Latin America studying at CU-Boulder.  Back then there were about 10 members.  Today we have more than 50 members and our purpose is to promote knowledge of Latin America as well as strengthening the unity of the Latino community within the University of Colorado.  The Alliance of Latin American Students has recently undergone some changes.  One of the most evident is in the name of our group, formerly known as the Association of Latin American Students.  The significance of the change to “alliance” is in the desires of the leadership to see the members of ALAS support one another in their endeavors.  Whether we have members interested in throwing party fundraisers, tutoring at schools, running for office, or just socializing with other Latinos on campus it’s important to align ourselves in support of one another.  Join the Alliance of Latin American Students the first Tuesday of every month for more information.
