ADDITIONAL BINS AND SPECIAL PICK-UPS

If you are cleaning out files, storerooms, etc. and have more recyclables than your recycling station can handle, special pick-ups and additional bins can be arranged.  We can deliver containers for office pak, white paper only and for low grade/mixed papers, magazines, and catalogs during office cleaning.  See Recycling Procedures/Materials Accepted below for more information on sorting and other materials that can be recycled.  Please call  492-5321 a week in advance to schedule delivery and pick-up.

RECYCLING PROCEDURES/MATERIALS ACCEPTED

Office materials and files should be sorted for recycling as follows:

RECYCLE AS OFFICE PAK:

(in desk-side container, central recycling container, or requested additional bin)

White paper*, light and pastel-colored paper, computer paper, notebook paper, glossy paper,  post-it notes, thermal fax paper, carbonless multi-copy forms (with    goldenrod copy removed), white and light colored envelopes (windows OK), open and sorted mail, light colored file folders, index cards, plastic and metal spiral notebooks (with covers removed). Empty all folders. Open and empty all envelopes.  Staples and paper clips OK.

*If you have large amounts of white paper, please separate from other office pak recyclables (white paper is of higher value for recycling).

ADDITIONAL RECYCLABLE MATERIALS:

TRANSPARENCIES, TYVEK ENVELOPES AND COMPUTER DISKETTES -- Send through campus mail to Campus Box 209 for recycling

CORRUGATED CARDBOARD -- Flatten corrugated cardboard boxes and place small amounts behind central recycling bins or on campus building loading docks.  For large quantities, call 492-5321 to schedule a special pick-up.

CAMPUS MAILING ENVELOPES AND REUSABLE KRAFT ENVELOPES -- Send large, document-sized envelopes and extra campus mailing envelopes in good condition to Mailing Services, Campus Box 60, for re-use.

MAGAZINES AND CATALOGS -- Magazines, catalogs, and similar glossy materials can now be recycled at 30 special locations on campus. (Tear all glue bindings to 1/2" or smaller.)  Call 492-8307 for the location nearest you.

NEWSPAPERS -- should be recycled in newspaper recycling bins at central locations or in the newspaper side of campus desk-side recycling containers.

LOW GRADE/MIXED PAPERS -- The following items should not be placed in any campus recycling containers, but can be dropped off at our on-campus facility for recycling:  non-reusable Kraft envelopes, hanging file folders, books, single-layer paperboard, booklets printed on newspaper-like material.

INK JET AND PRINTER TONER CARTRIDGES -- Cartridges can be dropped off for recycling at the Copy Centers in the Stadium, Regent, and Continuing Education, or at CU Recycling’s office in UMC 331.

BLUEPRINTS -- please recycle by taking to special bin in Stadium 255-37.

-- All of the above items may also be sorted and dropped off for recycling at CU Recycling’s on campus Intermediate Processing Facility (IPF).  The IPF is located in the Grounds Building on Stadium Drive, just east of the Dal Ward Athletic Center and Recreation Center.  Drop off hours are Monday - Friday  9 am - 4 pm.

DO NOT PUT THE FOLLOWING ITEMS IN RECYCLING BINS:

(these items should be placed in the trash)

Plastic bags, carbon paper, tape, rubber bands, photographs, film negatives, candy wrappers, paper plates, paper cups and towels, frozen food containers, styrofoam and other packing materials

Dark and bright colored papers, neon papers, goldenrod colored papers (including goldenrod copy of multi-copy forms) and dark colored file folders.  (These items are no longer accepted for recycling by our paper buyer because of their contaminating inks.)

Your attention to following these instructions during office cleaning is appreciated by the staff at CU Recycling.

THANK YOU FOR RECYCLING!
