Welcome to this seminar intended to explore the significance of the
Manifesto on its 150th Anniversary. As the 20th century ends we have seen
how an invigorated capitalism seems to replicate today the revolutionary
role Marx praised in the Manifesto. But there are crucial differences
today, as the effects of downsizing and privatizations entail, to some
extent, deproletarianization and massive impoverishment in the developing
The issues we can explore are numerous and complex and the context for our
discussions is set by the papers you may have already retrieved an read.
