Social theory should illuminate and clarify our everyday life for us.
It should help us understand where our personal biography intersects with
both the history of our society and that of the groups to which we belong.
The awareness we thereby gain should permit us to develop strategies to
bring meaning and empowerment to our personal and public lives.
