Merle Funk, Ph.D.
Like
many Americans, I’m an immigrant. I’m a Canadian citizen who has lived in the “States” for
most of my life – we
moved from Manitoba to Montana in late November 1963—how’s
that for timing? Almost sounds like a Bob and Doug sketch,
eh? Before you call the INS, I have a valid green card
thanks to my American wife of 19 years. Sherri and I live
in Lafayette with our three dual-citizen children, Victoria—sophomore at Centaurus High School,
Micah—our
8th grade son,
and Anna—the fifth-grade
baby
of the family. We have lived in the Boulder
area since
the summer of ’87, when we relocated from Omaha, Nebraska —don’t worry we’re
all Buff fans despite the decade long victory drought. In
addition to the school of hard knocks my education includes a
high school diploma from Dalmeny, Saskatchewan—class of 12, a B.A. in History, Philosophy and Bible from a rather conservative (ties in class, midnight curfews) evangelical college called Grace University, an M.A. in history from Creighton University, a Jesuit institution, and a Ph.D. in American history from dear old CU, class of ‘94. You’ll
have to take my class to get bored by my various job experience
anecdotes, but I will let you know that my interests include
the Colorado Rockies, punk/ska concerts, and Russian films. Dos vedanya!
