Science Explorers: Professional Development and Science Enrichment for Teachers and Students (grades 5-8)

Mock wind turbinesScience Explorers is a unique professional development program for teachers offering day-long, activity-based science workshops to teams composed of a teacher and five students.

Teachers and students in grades five through eight work side by side, which gives teachers the opportunity to observe how students respond to the activities, and allows students to develop their own knowledge and leadership skills.

Each year a new theme is chosen and three workshops are developed; the science theme is integrated with math, technology, literacy, history, geography and the arts. The content and activities support Colorado Content Standards. Science Explorers attendees receive materials and curriculum, complete with assessments, to take back to their schools. Teachers enthusiastically return to Science Explorers year after year to further enhance their science curricula.

Science Explorers workshops are held at urban and rural sites throughout Colorado and include teams from schools in the host community as well as in surrounding districts.
