Rocky Mountain Discovery: From Backyards to National Parks Summertime is a splendid time, whether exploring nature in your backyard, neighborhood woods, or even at Rocky Mountain National Park! Rangers will guide children's discovery of animals large and small and the unseen world in which they live, both in the urban environment of Boulder, and in the national park. You will be absolutely amazed by what you find when you turn over a Rocky Mountain maple leaf and discover the Ruby Slippers, find a cocoon or the butterfly it has become, scout out noisy blue jays and magpies, and watch the miraculous pollinators of wildflowers. We will hike locally around campus to ponds and streams, make nature art, learn bird calls, and dissect flowers. Monday through Thursday we will focus and fine tune our observation skills of things wild in our backyard. Friday will culminate with a day-long visit to Rocky Mountain National Park for a safe, ranger guided outing to discover the wildlife, forests, and streams that make the park and intriguing and exciting place. Class size is limited to 13 students. Note: Transportation and field materials provided. Bring a day pack with plenty of water, shade providing hat, sunglasses, snack, sunscreen, lunch, and a rain jacket. In addition, for Rocky Mountain National Park, bring extra layers of cool weather clothing and warm hat. CLASS CODE: RMA/8 |
