Observing the Oceans

This course will introduce middle school students to ocean instruments that enable scientists to develop a deeper understanding of the ocean's link with climate. Students will access near real-time data from equatorial buoys drifting in the ocean currents. We will read and discuss the book, “Teacher in the Air: Dr. Diane's Adventures with the NOAA Hurricane Hunters”, view instruments that measure ocean temperature during a hurricane, and meet a real hurricane hunter, a navigator on board the NOAA planes that fly through hurricanes.
