Fossils, Crystals, & Rocks – A Field Class

Join us for a full day exploring the world of minerals and fossils. Learn simple tests to identify common rocks and minerals. Make your own fossils, go on rock and fossil hunts, and try your luck panning for gold. You'll make crystals and your own mineral kit. We'll visit an experimental mine in Idaho Springs and even see the footprints of the dinosaurs that roamed in Colorado. Come prepared to hunt for fossils and collect a variety of rocks. Please note: Students will be transported in university vans with a trained driver. Most of this class will be spent in the field. Students need sturdy walking shoes, hats, daypacks, waterproof windbreaker, water bottle, a non-peanut snack and lunch each day, as well as sunscreen and repellent pre-applied.

NOTE: All Fossils, Crystals & Rocks classes will meet on CU Main Campus.
