Astrobiology This class at the Fiske Planetarium will investigate the possibility of life on other planets. As is the case with all science, it is easier to determine where life cannot exist than where life might exist. Using microscopes we will examine a variety of local and planetary rocks for signs of life. We will also use spectroscopy, a vital tool used by scientists to determine the composition of rocks and atmospheres on other planets. We will get to use the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) satellite, built at CU, to help with our class. Finally, we will attempt to calculate the number of planets in our galaxy that may support life. CLASS CODE: ASTB/4 |
