Wolf Tracks and Backpacks

Sign me up!

Wolf with handlerFollow the trail with us as Wolf Tracks and Backpacks leads us to the heart of a wolf sanctuary and Colorado’s wild places. Wildlife biology, local natural history, astronomy and wilderness skills will fill the week. We start at Mission:Wolf near the famed Greenhorn Mountain where one of the last free ranging wolves of Colorado is rumored to have been killed. Please see WOLF AND WILDERNESS write-up. Wolf behavior, community living, and energy conservation will be highlighted.

Evenings will include a variety of activities and classes that are serenaded by the howls of Maggie, Abraham, Selway and Guinness. Topics will include outdoor cooking, shelter-building, navigation, fire-building techniques and weather prediction. We’ll compare the similarities between wolf pack and human family and the ways in which wolves unite for survival. The trip culminates in the Powderhorn Wilderness where students will put their new skills to use. Students return home captured by the spirit of the Wolf, possessing the skills and knowledge that only wilderness can teach, and the confidence to transfer the experience to family, friends and community.
